Memorial Day 2022: Remember and Honor
May 26, 2022
Memorial Day is a time to recognize, reflect, and pay our respects to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. They are our grandfathers and grandmothers, fathers and mothers, our uncles and aunts, and our brothers and sisters. They are our dearly loved friends and neighbors.
These men and women are the heroes in both our hearts and next door. Their stories of sacrifice and courage must be preserved and shared with every generation so that we may, as a community, always be mindful of the selfless, brave individuals that are responsible for keeping our nation free.
“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy, forget in time that men have died to win them.”

History of Memorial Day
Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in military service for the United States.
In 2012 the New York Times reported that as many as 25 different places claimed to have begun Memorial Day. In 1966 President Lyndon Johnson officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day to be Waterloo N.Y. where an event was held on May 5th, 1866.
Ways to Honor the Fallen
For most Americans Memorial Day evokes thoughts of three-day weekends and the unofficial beginning of summer. And yes, it’s a day many of us view as the unofficial beginning of summer, observed by barbecues, playing games, and taking a boat on the lake with family and friends.
In addition to games and picnics, here are a few great ideas to celebrate Memorial Day this weekend.
-
Attend A Memorial Day Event
Many towns have parades and ceremonies on Memorial Day, and some events conclude with a memorial service and the sound of Taps.
-
Volunteer at a National Cemetery
If you live near a military cemetery, you can pay your respects by bringing flowers to the grave of a fallen soldier. You could also place an American flag on the headstone.
-
Thank A Veteran
While Memorial Day is a time for remembering and honoring our fallen soldiers, it’s also a time to thank soldiers for their past and present service. Don’t know a veteran? Research online or call your local recruiting office for more information about writing letters or sending care packages to soldiers currently deployed
-
Participate in the National Moment of Remembrance
The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to stop what they’re doing at 3:00 pm local time on Memorial Day to observe a moment of silence.
Whether you find yourself at work, at home, at a small get-together with friends and family, or at a large barbecue with everyone you know, you can join the rest of the United States in these 60 seconds of silent reflection.
In Observance
All Morgan White Group offices located within the United States will close on Monday, May 30th in observance of Memorial Day. We hope you will take some time to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
We hope you have a relaxing Memorial Day weekend! From the MWG Broker Services team, THANK YOU to all the armed forces and veterans for everything you’ve done for our country!
