How MWG Uses Technology to Transform the Broker Experience

Jude Thompson, Jr.

An Interview with Ben Markland
Sales & Technology Supervisor

by Kim White, Division Project Manager

Please tell our readers a little about the tools and technology MWG currently has in place to make working with us a must.

At MWG we consider ourselves trailblazers when it comes to integrating technology into a lot of very antiquated processes synonymous with the insurance industry. We always strive to make working with us, either as an agent, employer, or individual, easier than our competitors.

If you are an agent, we offer our Broker Portal to manage your clients, commissions, or even leverage our library of marketing templates. Contracting to sell our products is done completely online and you can begin selling insurance through all our carriers faster than you could put a letter in the mailbox. Our recently released MWG Group Exchange simplifies the process of quoting and enrolling new business.

If you are an employer, our Group Portal allows you to manage all your policies with MWG and everything is on one bill.

Finally, individuals can shop and buy dental and vision insurance using our e-commerce website, much like they can buy airline tickets or book a hotel.

Regarding the tools you just mentioned, what technology brings the most value to the agent community?

I must go with the MWG Group Exchange. There is simply nothing else like it out there. Where else can an agent quote multiple lines of coverage with multiple carriers and even enroll their groups on the same platform? On top of that, it does not cost anything! I predict, as we add more carriers and coverages, our exchange will become the go-to tool for all our agents for quoting and enrolling their new groups.

What are some of the tools and technology updates you predict will be available through MWG?

We are constantly adding content and functionality to our Broker Portal. We are also in the process of onboarding four new carriers in the MWG Group Exchange, which will give agents even more products to offer with just the click of a mouse. On the administrative side, we are currently working on implementing automation to make the agent contracting and group renewal processes quicker and easier for all parties involved. This is a very exciting time at MWG.

Broker Services, the TPA, and our programmers have all put a lot of energy into building an all-in-one platform that can handle everything, from the quote to ongoing employee management. What are some of the most misunderstood features in the system?

I think some of our agents have failed to take advantage of our electronic enrollment option when enrolling their groups. In some scenarios, especially with small groups, it would be much more efficient to have the system email each employee their own enrollment link. This link would allow them to accept or waive coverage, and add their dependents, as opposed to capturing their information and filling out a census. They can even complete the enrollment on their phones.

How can our readers learn more about how the tools and platforms work? What do we offer to help educate them?

We offer training webinars monthly. You can find the current webinar schedule, in addition to an archive of some of our most popular webinars, on our website under the Resource Center. We also have a library of training documents and videos within our Broker Portal. We always try to keep our customers informed of all of our new offerings and updates.
